ABOUT JUD STELTER
I don’t dabble in employment law; it’s all I do. And it’s all I’ve ever done my entire career. I’m passionate about it. I often joke, “I’m a one-trick pony, but it’s an important trick if you have employees.” I fell in love with employment law in law school while serving as an extern for a federal judge in Cleveland, Ohio. The first case the judge assigned to me was an employment case involving an inebriated executive who provoked a mean right cross from an angry attendee at a work function. Needless to say, I was hooked. Becoming the best employment lawyer I can be has been my sole professional focus ever since.

I grew up in Utah and attended college at BYU. During that time, I felt certain I wanted to be a mental health counselor, not a legal counselor. My wife and I, with our month-old baby in tow, moved to Northeast Ohio for graduate school to become a therapist. Although I did finish that training as a therapist, it was immediately apparent to me that being a therapist didn’t satisfy me as I expected it would. I wanted something different professionally.

I switched gears and went to law school. I was in my first week of law school — with a crusty, ornery contracts professor — when I realized I had found my happy place. I loved it. And it was in my second year of law school when I discovered employment law. I’ve never looked back. I was recruited out of law school by a large firm in Ohio.

The Beehive State ultimately beckoned me home, and I returned in 2015 after living in Northeast Ohio for 12 years. Go Browns! I was fortunate to continue my practice both in Ohio and in Utah and have done that for most of my career.
